VETUS was founded by Willem den Ouden in 1964. The relation between the brand name VETUS and Den Ouden comes back in the meaning of the word VETUS which means ‘old’ in Latin and is translated as ‘Oud’ in Dutch. Since that period of time, the company has grown into a truly international business, being a developer, manufacturer and trading company selling technical equipment and marine diesel engines for pleasure craft and smaller commercial vessels. From the beginning, the company’s principle has been the in-house design and development of exclusive VETUS products, leaving the manufacturing and assembly to specialized third parties. Export business was strongly developed from an early stage. Apart from the headoffice in Schiedam, there are currently subsidiaries in Friesland (also in the Netherlands), Great Britain, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Russia, The United States, New Zealand, Australia and India. The commercial responsibility is divided into three main areas:
