Raymarine’s new Augmented Reality a breakthrough bonus for fishers

Date: 28-Nov-2016

Raymarine’s new version of its popular Wi-Fish mobile app (for use with Dragonfly- PRO and Wi-Fish CHIRP Sonar systems) includes an incredible new breakthrough: Augmented Reality Viewing.

The breakthrough enables the app to work with a smartphone or tablet’s GPS, compass and camera to show precisely where boaties are in relation to their saved waypoints and fishing spots. Users simply pan their smartphone or tablet across the horizon and the precise positions, including the name, bearing, range and symbol, of their waypoints appear in the live camera feed.

This makes it easy to find favourite fishing spots and, thanks to handy on-screen arrows, navigate straight to them; to see if someone else is on “your” spot and to easily identify ramps, wrecks and other points of interest.

The app also now includes a new mobile-friendly mapping view, which allows the smartphone or tablet to display a handy bird’s-eye image of the surrounding waters, complete with all waypoints. Users can then select their destination and view it either on the map or in Augmented Reality mode.

Using the Dragonfly-PRO’s Wi-Fi connection, the app synchronizes all stored waypoints automatically so that they are always able to be viewed, even when not on board.

In addition, a new View-Switcher menu provides fast and easy access to an expanded selection of modes: CHIRP DownVisionTM, fish targeting sonar, Augmented Reality View and mapping, as well as combination views. The Wi-Fish app also retains its ability to pause and rewind the sonar, and capture and share screen shots from the mobile device.

The new Wi-Fish App, which is free to download, works with Dragonfly 4-PRO, 5-PRO, 7-PRO, and the Wi-Fish Wi-Fi sonar system. It is now available for iPhone and iPad devices in the Apple iTunes App Store and Android versions will be available shortly.
