Victron’s latest Lithium NG battery range includes powerful new 48v models

Date: 16-Jan-2025

The latest releases in Victron Energy’s high performing Lithium NG battery range include new 12v and 24v models and the addition of a powerful new 48v model.

The new models feature more advanced communications between the batteries and the BMS and means more batteries can be used in a system. The maximum number of batteries that can be used together has increased from 20 to 50, meaning a 48-volt bank can now have a maximum capacity of 384kW/hrs.

The additional 48-volt storage system is a significant addition to the range due to the increasing demand for larger energy storages systems in the marine sector. This trend for higher voltage systems is already well established in other off & on grid markets, with benefits such as higher efficiency AC conversion rates, greater safety, significant weight saving and smaller conductors and cables.

Other upgraded features include integral mounting brackets, for easy installation and to ensure that the battery is optimally secured against slipping or tipping over; an improved IP-65 rating, meaning they are effectively sealed against dust and can withstand low-pressure water jets, making them ideal for environments where exposure to dust and water may be a concern; and a lower self-discharge rate.

A new software update enables both the new Victron Lithium NG batteries and existing models to run multiple BMS and battery banks in one system for added redundancy in larger systems, with the communication centre calculating this as a single bank for ease of viewing.

All the new Victron Lithium NG batteries come with an updated CAN communication system that automatically transmits all of the batteries’ data (battery voltage, current and temperature) to the Battery Management System (BMS) which centralises the data, calculates states of charge, monitors parameters such as cell status, cell voltages, battery current and temperatures and, if necessary, issues alarms.

Owners and skippers can receive alerts and check all of their batteries’ parameters at any time, via the VictronConnect App (every Victron BMS model has Bluetooth), a communication centre and the VRM Portal anywhere in the world.

The new models also boast a low self-discharge rate, contributing to the overall performance, longevity and reliability of the NG batteries.

Victron Energy’s new high performing Lithium NG battery range will be on display on the L&B stand, stand 130, on the ground floor of the Auckland Boat Show on March 6-9.
