Ocean Signal’s rescueME PLB3 locator beacon wins prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise
The Award was presented at a royal reception hosted by His Majesty, King Charles III, at St James’s Palace on July 8. His Majesty was joined by senior members of the Royal Family, including Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, who is President of the RYA.
Also the overall winner of the coveted Metstrade Dame Design Awards in 2022, the rescueME PLB3 Personal Locator Beacon is the world’s first personal locator beacon to combine 406MHz and AIS (Automatic Identification System) capability. It has proved extremely popular with a wide range of boat owners including those fishing inshore, offshore, on lakes and rivers and solo; with coastal and offshore sailors and by those in the outdoor, defence and aviation sectors.
Offering the same global satellite rescue alerting as the rescueME PLB1, the PLB3 also includes AIS Man Over Board alerting (which helps nearby vessels see the alert), Return Link Service confirmation (which confirms the distress signal has been received) and NFC smartphone connectivity.
Ocean Signal, which is based in the UK coastal town of Margate, also manufactures the EPIRB3, which includes such advanced, practical, life-saving features as AIS (Automatic Identification System), Return Link Service and Near Field Communication; the ATB1 Class B+ AIS Transponder, an advanced AIS transceiver that provides new levels of safety and security, especially for those navigating in busy waterways and in adverse conditions; and the EDF2 electronic digital flare, a sophisticated distress signalling device that greatly enhances the chances of a successful rescue and meets the requirements of Maritime New Zealand’s International Voyage Certificate (IVC).
